Thanks Brandon, I thought I would have to start this thread. Here is a list of DO's and DON"Ts that has been discussed for this new outdoor class. Please let us know your thoughts, comments, etc. as soon as possible so we can vote on the final details before the holiday season arrives.

DO's and Don'ts
BODY: You can use any body as long as it was made for the Slash. As far as I know, there are 3 modies for the Slash.
1. Pro-Line Hardcore Body (part # 3283-00) $30.00
2. Pro-Line Desert Rat Body (part # 3284-00) $30.00
3. Traxxas Clear Body (part #5811) $30.00
RECEIVER: You can change out the Traxxas receiver (Traxxas 4-channel micro receiver, part# 2216, $34.00) for one that works with your radio.
ESC: You can only use the one that came with the Slash (Traxxas XL-5 Forward/Reverse/Break & Waterproof, part# 3018X, $70.00). Traxxas also has this same ESC in the non-waterproof version (part# 3018) for only $55.00 and has the exact specs. This could be used but it is recommended to use the waterproof version since we plan on running the Slash rain or shine.
MOTOR: The only motor allowed will be the one that came with the Slash (Traxxas Titan 550 12T, part# 3785, $22.00).
GEARING: The Slash comes stock with a 48P, 86T spur gear and a 48P, 18T pinion gear. This combination is for good acceleration, good speed, under normal conditions. This is the combination that we will use. The Slash also comes with an optional 48P, 23T pinion gear which gives it high top speed, for long distances, on hard surfaces. Not what we need.
SERVO: The Traxxas Digital High Torque servo (part# 2075), which comes with the Slash will be used. This is waterproof and runs for $38.00. No subsitutes.
TIRES/WHEELS: For now, only the stock tires/wheels are allowed. These are off-road tires but when they come out with on-road, changes maybe made.

Ran out of space. Continue in next post.

DO's and DON'Ts continued:
BEARINGS: NO ceramic bearings will be allowed. Only the ones that came with the Slash are allowed.
AFTER MARKET: NO after market parts will be allowed unless certain parts become a problem and then a sub will be found and approved. One possible problem is the shock caps (part# 3767) which seem to come off. NO ALUMINUM PARTS ALLOWED.
SHOCK/SPRINGS: For now, only the stock shocks and springs will be allowed (#5857 - front and #5858 - rear).
BATTERIES: 2 types allowed
1 - NiMH, 6-cell, 5000mah, 7.2v - MAXIMUM
2 - LiPO, 2C, 3800mah, 7.4v - MAXIMUM
TIRES & WHEELS: Already discussed earlier but here are some part numbers and prices. You can purchase the tires and wheels already assembled. As you can see, it is cheaper to purchase them assembled.
Tires (front & rear), part#5871, $17.60/set
Front wheel, part# 5874, $7.70/set
Rear wheel, part# 5872, $7.70/set
Front assembled, part# 5875, $22.00/set
Rear assembled, part# 5873, $22.00/set

Bottom line - keep everything the same except for the body and receiver. Would like to keep this class as simple and cheap as possible.

Slash Rules:
1. Minimum weight: ????
2. Three 5-minute qualifing rounds and 8-minute mains.
3. There will be no more than 6 trucks per qualifier and main.
4. The winner of each qualifing round becomes the "target truck" for the next qualifier.
5. Must stay on track. No driving over the boards.
6. You DO NOT have to allow other drivers to pass. If they need and want to pass, they can do whatever they want without leaving the track.
7. There will be ramps. Specs on the rams not known at this time. Any suggestions?
8. All ramps will be the width on the lane.
9. All trucks will need to pass tech before each round. If a truck is running, out-of-spec (if you know what I mean), then the tech person can ask the driver to remove parts for inspection.
10. If you are caught cheating (without doubt), you will no longer be allowed to run the rest of the day and your money will not be refunded. NO FINISH - NO POINTS!

Bottom line - Keep the trucks stock legal, no crossing the boards, and become the "target truck" anyway you can. One more thing, HAVE FUN!

rules sound good joe. as for ramps, thought of making a set of whoops in a short straightaway? we could probobly make it so it can be folded up into a small package but yet accordian out for when we go to use it. Just a thought. If you like it i could probobly come up with a quick design.

Shaun, thanks and I like your idea. Draw up an idea and send it out. The ramps need to be lightweight and portable. Brandon and I have a few ideas as well. Mike Webb is the expert and can probably come up with some ideas. Do you find this valuable?

For the 2-cell lipo, there should be a 8.44 volt limit like in the tcs racing but this should only be checked if needed.

The moto for this class should be "stick a pack in it and drive" meaning no motor tweaking etc. The only thing I can see changing in the future is the shock setup (springs and oil). Do you find this valuable?

I agree on the springs and oil but not now. I feel that this is how it starts. Change this one thing, then another, then another, etc. These type of things will only get changed if they are always breaking or causing a problem. Do you find this valuable?

I'd actually like to split that decision. What if we went with allowing oil changes but not springs? Also allowing different diff oils to be used. The 2 reasons I'm saying this is 1st, the closest offroad track, Bumps and Jumps already allow these changes and it would be a P.I.T.A. to keep changing the trucks back and forth. 2nd reason is that it is too hard to Tech these items accurately and without question. Also, I've been having second thoughts about the "Target Truck". This might be a goal/game that could be played between consenting racers but it would probably tick off someone who is new to our program if it were in the rules. Do you find this valuable?

you just don't wanna get that new body scratched haha.

I still think we should do a target truck and just make sure that all racers know of the consequences lol.

Mike, I have to agree with you. I liked the idea at first but after talking to some of the racers at the track, I had second thoughts. I say keep it out of the rules but we could do it between rounds with the ones who would not mind getting "pushed" around. I believe the spectators would love to see us "killing" each other on the track but for fun and not for racing. I want racing the slash to be fun and not to be totally competative. We need to finalize the rules soon. I just received a shit load of stock parts for both Turner and I. Do you find this valuable?

Hotrod, it's just human nature to go after the best looking thing and RC bodies are no different. The better looking the body, the harder we hit.

Our first race with the Slash is over and it was a blast. I hope it stays that way the entire year. We just need to make a few adjustments, like Robbie pointed out, and it should stay an exciting class. Do you find this valuable?

"I must have missed it, what did Roberto have to say? and what are your ideas to keep it fun?"
He told everyone to stay off the throttle while the turn marshal is taking care of your car. To keep it fun we need to make sure EVERYONE is having fun and we listen to what the racers have to say. Some mentioned that we should start everyone at the same time. I somewhat agree but these are the things that we need to see how everyone feels and maybe vote on it. This should be a "majority rules" type of class. I had a great time and can't wait for Saturday.

I say a "brake check" in the back straight is needed ;-) Do you find this valuable?

Now your talking! Sounds like you have some good ideas for the placement of the ramps. I did not see much breakage last weekend. Both Brandon and I just broke the bracket in the rear that holds the rear bumper. I sanded them before I replaced them. They won't get hooked on the ramps this time.
